Ja kilpailua seuraa voitonjuhlat!

Matkalaisten maailmanlaajuisuuden vuoksi oli ne pidettävä kohtapuoleen ja seuraavana iltana vaelsivat Team PRH:n isännät ja emännät Helsinkiin  juhlan viettoon!

Veneellä yli salmen; Klippan oli valaistuna odottamassa ja hyörinän keskellä tavattiin tuttuja sekä uusia tuttavuuksia koko WRTC2002-kilpailun että kaikkien Teamien ja vetäjien sekä kaikkien kilpailijoiden myötä!

Juhlapaikalla sorisi niin että kielikorva oli solmuuntua!
Alkupalojen jälkeen nautimme palkintojen jaosta ja juhlat olivat niin upeat ja aplodit räiskyivät jännityksen purkautuessa!

Kilpailua käytiin monessa pöydässä läpi vielä uudestaan ja uudestaan; niin mutta jos...

Finaalina suoritettiin tietysti palkintojen jako.

Ja siellä oli voittajateamina kaksikko Jeff & Dan kaikkien juhlittavana korkeimmalla korokkeella! Kuin myös onnellinen isäntä Timppa!

 

Juhlat olivat eräällä tavalla haikeat. Olivathan ne suurimmalle osalle meistä myös hyvästijättötilaisuus!

Juhlapaikkana on Ravintola Klippan eräällä tavalla merellisen Helsingin helmi. Kesäöiselle merelle avautuva, paikoin rannaton näköala ja kaupungin valot pohjoisessa josta kirkkaan kuulas yötaivas loi eksoottisen tunnelman puolen yön jälkeen kun aurinko alkoi nousta horisonttiin.

Uskomme tämän herkistävän monen kilpailijan ja juhlijan mielentilaa luoden kansojen väliselle ilmapiirille käsinkosketeltavan tunnelman ystävyydestä ja yhdistävästä harrasteesta.

 

Palasimme hiljalleen  venejonossa ympärillemme katsellen ja kuulostellen merellisen Helsingin aamuyöhön ja hakeuduimme kulkuvälineellemme.

END STATEMENT: Who Won WRTC 2002? NEWINGTON, CT, Jul 15, 2002--The question of the hour within the Amateur Radio contesting world is, "Who won World Radiosport Team Championship 2002?" While an announcement is expected from the event's sponsors in Finland, the unofficial and preliminary team standings on the WRTC 2002 Web site suggest that the team of Jeff Steinman, N5TJ, and Dan Street, K1TO, once again topped the 52-team field during the international competition. Steinman and Street took home the gold at WRTC 96 in the San Francisco Bay area and at WRTC 2000 in Slovenia. Preliminary reports show N5TJ and K1TO in first place with 1,626,900 points, but the official outcome remains undertain.  "It's all over now!," said QST and NCJ Contributing Editor Ward Silver, N0AX. "And what a contest it was." Silver served as a referee at WRTC 2002 and has been filing regular reports from Finland.  At least for now, holding second place is the German team of Frank Grossman, DL2CC, and Bernd Och, DL6FBL, with 1,620,760 points; in third is the Russian team of Igor Booklan, RA3AUU, and Andrei Karpov, RV1AW, with 1,614,591 points.  As the contest drew to a close, however, reports via the real-time scoreboard showed the team of Jim Neiger, N6TJ, and Dick Norton, N6AA, overtaking N5TJ and K1TO for gold-medal honors. DL2CC and DL6FBL were reported to have taken silver with N5TJ and K1TO placing third for the bronze. Preliminary results now show the N6TJ-N6AA team in 15th place.  "Logging software bugs have resulted in some of the teams' multiplier totals being overstated," Silver said. The official WRTC 2002 results were scheduled for release this evening (July 15).  Silver said that his Finnish host, John, OH2BAH, considered conditions excellent for the midsummer event--which ran concurrently with the IARU HF Championship--with a minimum of static and absorption on the low bands. Several stations have remarked on the lack of propagation--and activity--on 10 meters, "hardly a surprise with the solar flux at 136," Silver said. Others said 40 meters was especially good. Silver said that with low antennas--about 40 feet above ground--and equivalent locations, "no one team had dominant propagation, so they had to maximize each chance to score." All WRTC stations ran 100 W on SSB and CW to similar antennas--a triband beam for 20, 15 and 10 meters (with two elements on each band) plus a Windom antenna for 40 and 80 meters.  The real-time scoreboard http://wrtc.jouni.net/WRTC/was a first for a WRTC. WRTC 2002 referees reported each team's score to a central server via cellular telephone.  WRTC 2002 was organized jointly by Contest Club Finland and the Finnish Amateur Radio League--SRAL. WRTC 2002 wraps up July 16 with an awards banquet and presentation.  WRTC 2002 is offering awards and plaques for those working all of the special OJ prefixes. Details are on the WRTC 2002 Web site. The log submission deadline is July 31, 2002. All logs should be sent via e-mail. The subject field of the e-mail should contain the call sign used for the contest. The WRTC 2002 Organizing Committee has requested all stations operating in the IARU event to submit electronic logs to the WRTC 2002 contest committee to aid in log checking.
